Updated 2 min read Counts toward signature requests
Each recipient gets their own signing link by email and signs in the browser without an account. You see who has opened and signed in Sent, and everyone receives the signed PDF and a Certificate of Completion when the last person finishes.
Step 1: Switch to Invite to sign
Open the PDF and choose Invite to sign in the mode switch at the top. Sign → Request signatures and Done → Request signatures go to the same place.
Step 2: Add recipients
Under 1 · Recipients, enter each person's name and email and pick a role: Signs, Approves (reviews and approves without a signature) or Gets a copy. Use Add recipient for more signers and + CC for copies. A request can have up to 20 recipients.
Step 3: Choose the signing order
In order emails each person after the previous one finishes; drag recipients to reorder them. All at once emails everyone together.
Step 4: Place each person's fields
Click a recipient to make them active; under 2 · Fields, new fields go to that person, in their color. Click a field type (Signature, Initials, Date, Text, Checkbox…), then the page, or drag it. If the PDF already has fields, choose Use the PDF's existing fields to make them assignable.
Step 5: Check what each person will see
Use Preview as… to fill the document exactly as one recipient will.
Step 6: Review and send
Choose Send in the top bar. In Review and send, set the Title (email subject), an optional Message, Reminders, Expires and Recipients' language, then select Send.
Defaults are a reminder every 3 days and expiry after 30 days. You can choose reminders every day or every 2, 3, 5 or 7 days (or Off), and expiry after 7 to 180 days (or Never). Reminders go to people who haven't finished yet.
If Send stays disabled
- Every field must belong to a recipient. Use Assign all to or Select them in the warning, or pick a recipient under Field assigned to in Field options.
- Each signer needs at least one field, usually a signature. People who Get a copy can't have fields.
- Every recipient needs a name and a valid email, and no email can appear twice.
Drafts, accounts and limits
Save and close keeps the request as a draft; continue it any time from Sent. You can prepare a request as a guest, but sending needs a free account so recipients know who it's from. Each sent request counts once, however many people sign it: 3 a month on Free, unlimited on Pro and Business. Invitation emails sent from Free accounts end with a short "Sent with PDFBetter" line; the documents themselves never carry it.

- The signed PDF, Certificate of Completion and audit trailWhen everyone finishes, each person gets the signed PDF and a Certificate of Completion. Both are digitally sealed and, when the time-stamping service is reachable, independently time-stamped. The signed PDF carries the signing evidence inside it, so changing one byte makes PDF readers flag the file.
