Save a form as a reusable template

Choose Done → Save as template in the editor, or Save as template from a document's menu in My documents. Open it later from Templates with Use template: each use creates a new document and the template stays unchanged.

A template is a reusable master copy with its fields, rules and fixed content. It suits anything you fill or send again and again: an intake form, an invoice, a contract with the signature fields already placed.

  1. Step 1: Set the document up once

Add the fields, formulas, visibility rules and any text that never changes. Leave the parts that vary empty.

  2. Step 2: Save it as a template

In the editor choose Done → Save as template, then Save template. From the dashboard, open a document's menu and choose Save as template.

  3. Step 3: Find it

Open Templates in the sidebar. Your own are under My templates; Library has PDFBetter's original fillable templates and official forms.

  4. Step 4: Use it

Choose Use template. A private copy opens in the editor, ready to fill, sign, send or publish. The template itself never changes.

Plan limits

Templates need a free account. Free includes 3 templates; Pro and Business are unlimited. On Business, you can share a template with your team from its menu in My documents, and it appears under the team's Templates.

Templates for signing

Fields in a template keep their settings, including Filled by, the role that completes each field when you request signatures (for example "Client"). For repeat signature requests, save the document as a template with its signature and date fields placed. For each new copy, switch to Invite to sign, add the people, and point each field at a recipient with Field assigned to in Field options. Before sending, PDFBetter lists any field that isn't assigned yet, with Select them to find them.

How do I change a template?

Choose Edit template from it in Templates. Documents already created from it don't change.

Can I fill a template from a spreadsheet?

Download a copy with Keep fillable and drop it into Fill PDF from Excel with your spreadsheet.
