Manage pages, page numbers and watermarks in the editor
Click Pages in the toolbar to open thumbnails: drag to reorder, and use the buttons to rotate, duplicate, delete, crop, resize or insert pages. Page numbers and watermarks are in the toolbar too; headers, footers and Bates numbers are separate browser tools.

Work with pages
Step 1: Open the page thumbnails
Click Pages in the toolbar. A thumbnail column opens on the left.
Step 2: Select pages
Click a thumbnail. Shift- or ⌘-click to select several. Page actions apply to the selection.
Step 3: Reorder
Drag thumbnails into the new order. On a phone, press and hold a page to drag it.
Step 4: Use the page actions
The buttons above the thumbnails: Rotate left, Rotate right, Duplicate page, Delete page, Insert blank page (before or after the selected page, in the size you choose), Insert pages from a file, Crop page and Resize pages.
Deleting a page also deletes what you added to it, and Undo brings both back. Insert pages from a file (also Merge or upload in the top bar) accepts a PDF, a PNG or JPG, or a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file. Office files are converted on our servers first, which counts as one Office & advanced conversion (10 a month on Free). Resize pages scales content to a new paper size such as US Letter or A4.
Page numbers
Open More → Page numbers. Choose one of six positions, a Format such as Page {n} of {total}, Start at, size, Margin (pt) and color, and which Pages to number. Numbers follow the current page order, so they stay correct after you reorder, insert or delete pages. To skip a cover page, set Pages to 2- and Start at to 1.
Watermark
Click Watermark in the toolbar. Choose Text (for example CONFIDENTIAL) or Image (a PNG or JPG logo), then position (Center, Top, Bottom or Tiled across the page), rotation, opacity and pages. It's previewed live and applied to the downloaded PDF. Behind page content is best effort: opaque backgrounds such as scans can hide it.
Headers, footers and Bates numbers
These aren't in the editor. Use Header & footer (six text slots with page number and date placeholders, odd/even pages and mirroring) and Bates numbering (prefix, suffix, digits and a running number across several files). Both run in your browser, upload nothing and download free without an account. Do them before or after editing; you can upload the result back into the editor.
Is rotation saved in the file?
Yes. The downloaded PDF opens with the pages upright in every viewer.
Can I reorganize pages without opening the editor?
Yes. Organize PDF, Rotate PDF and Remove pages do the same in your browser and download free without an account. See Rotate, reorder, delete or add pages.
