Measure distances and areas on a drawing

The Measure tool is in the Edit & fill toolbar (in More on narrow screens). When it's active, a measure bar appears with the mode, scale, unit, decimals and color.

  1. Step 1: Choose Measure

Click Measure in the toolbar. Pick a mode: Distance, Perimeter, Area or Calibrate.

  2. Step 2: Set the scale

Click the scale chip and type the scale as printed on the drawing, for example 1 in = 10 ft or 1:50. Choose a Unit (in, ft, mm, cm, m) and the number of Decimals.

  3. Step 3: Or calibrate from a known length

Choose Calibrate, draw over a dimension you know (a wall, a scale bar), enter the Real length and click Apply scale. Every new measurement uses it; tick the option to also update existing measurements.

  4. Step 4: Measure

For Distance, drag or click two points. For Perimeter and Area, click each corner, then double-click or press Enter to finish (or click Finish).

  5. Step 5: Label and adjust

Select a measurement to add a Caption (for example "Wall A") or change its color. Drag a corner to adjust it; Alt-click a corner to remove it.

Getting the numbers out

  • In the PDF. Measurements are drawn into the downloaded file with the same values you see in the editor.
  • As a list. Done → Export comments with Include measurements turned on gives a Summary PDF, CSV or JSON with each measurement's value and unit.
Each page of my set has a different scale. What do I do?

Set or calibrate the scale before measuring on each sheet. Every measurement keeps the scale it was made with, so earlier sheets aren't affected unless you choose to update existing measurements while calibrating.

Can I measure a curved wall?

Not as a true curve. Use Perimeter and click enough corners along the curve to approximate it.

Why is my measurement off?

Check the scale chip first. Drawings printed with "Fit to page" or scanned at a slight angle no longer match their printed scale; calibrate from a known dimension instead.
