# Remove a member or leave a team

> In **Settings** → **Team & branding**, click the remove icon on the person's row and confirm **Remove**. To leave, click it on your own row and confirm **Leave team**. People keep their own documents; documents shared with the team stay with the team.

## Remove someone

1. **Open Team & branding**: Click **Settings** at the bottom of the sidebar, then **Team & branding**.
2. **Find them**: In the members list, find their row and click the remove icon (**Remove** followed by their name).
3. **Confirm**: Read the dialog and click **Remove**. You'll see **Member removed**.

The owner can remove anyone except themselves. Admins can remove members but not other admins. Members can't remove anyone.

## Leave a team

1. **Open Team & branding**: Click **Settings** at the bottom of the sidebar, then **Team & branding**.
2. **Click Leave team**: On your own row (marked **(you)**), click the remove icon labeled **Leave team**.
3. **Confirm**: Click **Leave team** in the dialog. You'll see **You left the team**.

## What happens afterwards

|  | After removal or leaving |
| --- | --- |
| Their own documents | Stay in their account. |
| Documents they shared with the team | Stay shared with the team, so teammates keep access. |
| Team documents shared by others | They lose access. |
| Plan | They lose the team's Business plan and go back to their own plan. |
| Seat | Frees up at once for a new invitation. |

> **Tip:** If someone is leaving your company, ask them to share any documents the team needs before you remove them. After they're removed, only they can share more of their documents.

### Can the owner leave?

No. The owner can't leave or be removed. To hand the team over, contact support from the owner's account.

### Does removing someone delete their account?

No. Their PDFBetter account stays, with their own documents, on their own plan.
