# Ask across several documents and make briefs, slides or quizzes

> Create a workspace in **Workspaces**, add documents, and use **Ask across documents** (2 credits per answer) or **Make something from these documents** to generate a brief, slide outline, quiz or audio brief. Every citation names the document, version and page.

1. **Create a workspace**: Go to **Workspaces** in the sidebar, click **New workspace**, name it ("Office lease renewal") and click **Create**.
2. **Add documents**: In **Documents**, click **Add** → **Add from your documents**. Tick **Pin to the current version** to keep citing that exact version after later edits.
3. **Choose which ones to use**: Untick documents you want to leave out. The header shows **AI actions use … of … documents**.
4. **Ask**: Under **Ask across documents**, type a question and click **Ask** (`Ctrl`/`⌘` + `Enter`).
5. **Check sources**: Each citation opens the document in a new tab at the cited page. Quotes were matched to that version.

If the documents don't answer the question, it says so. If an answer was drafted but none of its quotes could be found on the cited pages, it's withheld.

## Make a brief, slides, quiz or audio

Under **Make something from these documents**, pick the **Output type**, add an optional focus and click **Generate …**. Tick **Also save the PDF to my documents** to keep a copy. Results go to **Saved outputs** with their sources. Statements without a verified source are flagged.

> **Note:** If speech can't be produced (for example, spoken audio isn't switched on), you get the transcript and only the brief (4 credits) is charged.

Workspaces need a free account. Tool pages like [PDF to brief](https://pdfbetter.com/tools/pdf-to-brief/) and [PDF to quiz](https://pdfbetter.com/tools/pdf-to-quiz/) take up to 5 PDFs at a time and create a quick workspace that doesn't count toward your limit. Deleting a workspace removes its saved outputs; the documents stay.

### Does a workspace copy my documents?

No. It only references them. Documents stay where they are; unpinned ones follow their latest version.

### Can I share a workspace with my team?

Not yet. Workspaces belong to your account. [Share the generated PDF](https://help.pdfbetter.com/sharing/create-share-link/) instead.
