# How much storage you have, and what counts toward it

> Free includes 1 GB, Pro 50 GB and Business 200 GB per seat. See what you've used in **Settings → Plan & usage → Storage**. When it's full, new files can't be added until you delete documents, empty the trash or upgrade.

Do it in PDFBetter: https://pdfbetter.com/app/settings/billing/

Storage is the space your stored files take up. Unlike monthly allowances it doesn't reset: it goes down when you delete documents for good. Each person has their own allowance; on Business it's per seat, so every member gets the full 200 GB for the documents they own.

| Plan | Storage |
| --- | --- |
| Without an account | 0.25 GB |
| Free | 1 GB |
| Pro | 50 GB |
| Business | 200 GB per seat |

## What counts

- **Originals** of the documents you own: the PDF, Word, Excel or image file you uploaded or created.
- **New versions** saved by operations that rewrite the file: applying redactions, OCR and scan restoration.
- **Saved downloads and copies**: each downloaded, shared or filled copy is kept with its document until the document is deleted for good.
- **Images, signatures and logos** you uploaded.

Each file counts once, even when several versions share it. Files that don't count: temporary uploads to tools (they expire), tool results you didn't save as a document, signing evidence, and documents someone else owns and shared with you.

## See what you've used

1. **Open Plan & usage**: Go to [Settings → Plan & usage](https://pdfbetter.com/app/settings/billing/). The **Storage** section shows a meter such as “1.2 GB of 1 GB”.
2. **Watch for the warning**: When you pass 90%, the dashboard shows a notice with links to the trash and to your plan.

## Free up space

1. **Delete documents you don't need**: Move them to the trash from **My documents**. Deleting removes the original and every saved version and download with it.
2. **Empty the trash**: Trashed documents keep using storage until they're erased. Open [Trash](https://pdfbetter.com/app/trash/) and choose **Empty trash**, or wait: trashed documents are erased automatically 30 days after you delete them.
3. **Or upgrade**: Pro and Business include more storage. [Compare plans](https://help.pdfbetter.com/account-billing/compare-plans/).

> **What happens when it's full:** Uploads, new and duplicated documents, and operations that save a new version (redaction, OCR) are refused with a message that says how much space you have and what to do. Everything already stored stays: you can still open, edit, sign, share and download your documents. Without an account, PDFBetter asks you to create a free account instead.

### I'm editing a document someone shared with me and it says the owner's storage is full.

The document grows in its owner's storage, not yours. Ask them to free up space or upgrade; your own allowance doesn't help here.

### I downgraded and now I'm over the limit. Did I lose anything?

No. Nothing is deleted. You just can't add new files until you're back under your plan's allowance.

### Does storage reset every month?

No. Monthly allowances like downloads reset; storage only goes down when files are deleted for good.
