# Upgrade, downgrade or switch to yearly billing

> Open **Settings → Plan & usage** and click **Change plan**. Pick Pro or Business, monthly or yearly, and PDFBetter shows exactly what changes and what you pay before you confirm.

This applies to plans billed on pdfbetter.com. If you subscribed in the iPhone app, change the plan through Apple instead (see [Plans bought in the App Store](https://help.pdfbetter.com/account-billing/app-store-and-appsumo-plans/)). If you're on a team, the [team owner manages the plan](https://help.pdfbetter.com/teams/team-seats-billing/).

## From Free to a paid plan

On **Plan & usage**, click **Start free trial · yearly** (or **Upgrade · yearly**) under Pro or Business, or the **Monthly** button for monthly billing. You can also start from the [pricing page](https://pdfbetter.com/pricing/).

## Between paid plans

1. **Open Change plan**: In **Settings → Plan & usage**, click **Change plan**.
2. **Pick the new plan**: Choose Pro or Business, monthly or yearly. Your current option is marked **current plan**.
3. **Read the preview**: PDFBetter works out the price and shows what's charged today, any credit for unused time, and your next charge and date.
4. **Confirm**: Click **Pay … and switch** for an upgrade with a charge, or **Switch plan**. The change applies right away.

| Change | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Upgrade (e.g. Pro to Business, or monthly to yearly) | You switch right away and pay the prorated difference for the rest of the current period today. |
| Downgrade (e.g. Business to Pro, or yearly to monthly) | You switch right away. Credit for the unused part of the old plan goes toward your next invoices. |
| Any change during a free trial | The trial continues on the new plan and nothing is charged until it ends. |

> **Note:** If you've canceled your plan, **Change plan** is replaced by **Resume plan**. Resume first, then change it.

## Business seats and your card

- **Seats:** choose the number of seats in checkout. To add or remove seats later, click **Manage billing**; you can't invite more people than you have seats.
- **Card:** click **Update payment method** to change the card the plan is charged to.
- **Billing name, address or tax ID for invoices:** click **Manage billing** and edit your billing details.

### Do my allowances change immediately?

Yes. The new plan's features and monthly allowances apply as soon as the switch goes through.

### Why can't I upgrade on the web?

If you already have a plan through the App Store, web checkout is blocked so you aren't billed twice. Manage that subscription through Apple.
